OK, so i used the pattern from Ann Budd's book
Subtle Seam Wheel Tam - age 4yr - sm adult (17")
#4 needles - 2 strands fingering weight yarn
Cast on 100 - join, careful not to twist
K1, P1 8 rounds
K2, M1 = 150 st
work for 24 rounds
M K2tog, K 21 SSK, M (6 times)
knit
M K2Tog, K, SSK, M till 6 st remain - run yarn thru

FINALLY!!!
I m sure its the 3&2 rib .. Mite do something else before the Marsan hat .. A 1x1 twisted rib will make me ccccrazy .. Coughin stuff up .. Its a good sign

# 10 needles (DP for crown) & # 8 for rib
gauge 4 st & 5 rounds / inch
Pattern is Cuff UP & in the round
#8 circs - co 80, join careful not to twist
K1P1 - 10 rounds
switch to # 10 circs - knit for 9 rounds
K8, KFB - repeat across - 90 st
knit 9 rounds
Place marker K2Tog, K8, Place marker - repeat across
Knit
*M K2Tog, K to marker, M* repeat around
Knit
repeat last 2 rounds till 9 stitches - run a yarn thru the stitches & weave in ends
Purple is petulant feminine converted to round (crown down)
yarn is London Tweed by Classic Elite
# 10 circs for hat & # 8 for ribbing
co 3 - join, careful not to twist (DPS are recomenneded at this stage)
